1:100 Drawings of House and Garden

About my artist - Patricia Piccinini

This house and Gallery space was designed with Patricia Picinini in mind. Patricia Piccinini is an Australian artist and hyperrealist sculptor. Piccinini works with a wide range of media, including sculpture, video, drawing, installation and digital prints. She is keenly interested in how contemporary ideas of nature, the natural and the artificial are changing our society.Piccinini's work often anthropomorphises inanimate objects and presents them with a high degree of industrial finish.

The auditorium was designed with her works known as 'swell' in mind. They are large digital prints and videos of the ocean swell far of shore. The gallery spaces were designed with 'The long awaited' in mind. They are large sculptors of have animal half human creations. The aerial views above the gallery space offer a unique perspective on her work.

House and Garden

To complete the brief I have design a space that conforms with the surrounding areas. The first house's purpose is a rental property in this exclusive location offering beautiful views of the city. It is a three storey contemporary terrace house. I wanted the internal layout to be quite traditional, but be very modern with its use of materials. Originally I had the idea to keep the steep roof slope to conform with the terrace houses to the right. After discussion with my tutor I decided to alter my design to include a roof top enterainment area conforming with the taller terrace houses to the left of the site. These terrace houses do not have pitched roofs. This house has the potential to offer a tenat ample privacy, while also maintaining the ability to be integrate with the gallery spaces and auditorium area. The ground floor opens to a large patio area which is intertwined with the other spaces.

My second house houses the gallery space aswell as large private quarters for the artist. Ground level operates as the larger and smaller gallery spaces seperated by an outdoor entertaining area. The most important thing to maintain for all areas of the site are the magnificent views. I have tried to utlise the deep site. level one, acts as an outdoor mezzanine above a glass box which acts The larger gallery space. This is slightly elevated ftrom ground level. The area above the smaller gallery space is inclosed and sheltered with a simple pathway leading to the outdoor mezzanine. This pathway has the same function, offering an elevated view of the smaller gallery space, which has a void spanning two storeys. The upper and lower basements is the artists private home. It boasts volumous spaces which step up and are void in other areas.

The ground level holds an auditorium which is my other public space. This is an area for my artist to display installations projected onto the exterior wall of the adjoining building. I have tried to leave a third of this large site bare to offer potential to create a landscaped oasis.

Feedback from presentation - Changes Made

During the presentation advise was given on how to improve on my work. I took all this into account and made all the changes advised. They were the following:

  • Add an axonometric drawing to the materials analysis to give a better view of my reworked model.

  • add text describing the material in my materials anaylsis

  • add text describing the spaces in the Maison A Bordeaux and My reworked version in the public and private spaces.

  • Add a section that runs through the diagonal of my reworked version of Maison A Bordeaux to give a better idea of the building and its structure.
